Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Rotation |
The Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Rotation at North Florida provides medical students with a comprehensive introduction to ultrasound use in the emergency department and leaves students with EM ultrasound skills that will be useful as they transition to residency and beyond. We introduce medical students to the basic physics of ultrasound, ultrasound image generation and acquisition, and clinical applications of point-of-care bedside ultrasound in the emergency department.
The student will spend 4 weeks in a busy emergency department alongside residents and fellowship-trained attendings with plenty of hands-on opportunities.
Students will:
- Participate in procedures, bedside examinations, and patient care
- Attend weekly didactics, including hands-on ultrasound experiences, simulation sessions, and journal clubs
- Have an opportunity to participate in a short case presentation, case publication or special project with the ultrasound faculty
- Be assigned a small number of shifts in the Emergency Department
- Utilize and complete SonoSim
- Take a post-rotation test to help with future improvement and development of our ultrasound learning experiences.
No prior ultrasound training is required!
We also offer rotating students early virtual interviews and coaching for future interviews. US Leadership will be able to write a Subspecialty SLOE if requested. We have some flexibility in adjusting start and end date of the rotation.
